Santa Barbara Blvd. extension set to open on Monday

Santa Barbara Boulevard in eastern Collier County will be two miles longer Monday when Collier County’s latest “engineering accomplishment” is expected to be substantially complete, a county release said.

Rick Scott for governor of Florida catches on with out-of-state donors

Rick Scott had raised $430,000 in donations as of a week ago. He also made $23.9 million in personal loans to his campaign in the three-month period covered by the report. A rough analysis of Scott’s donor list showed that roughly 30 percent of his donors are from outside of Florida. Compare that to the roughly 10 percent represented by out-of-state donors on opponent Bill McCollum’s donor list.

POLL Alligator Alley widening study raised environmental concern about interchanges

Environmental opposition to an interchange at Everglades Boulevard goes back decades _ even before Interstate 75 spanned South Florida.
The Florida Department of Transportation’s 1972 environmental review of the plan to build Alligator Alley is among a list of concerns cited by environmental agencies as Collier County pushes its plan for the interchange.
